NEWS

It is with great sadness that Raburn Wool is closing down.
We have had such a great time over the past 10 years, and met so many wonderful people, crafters, spinners, knitters, farmers and wool enthusiasts. Thank you all for making this family business so much fun.

As much as we have enjoyed it, it has taken a lot of time on top of other work and we have reluctantly decided to focus on other avenues.
If anyone is interested in buying any of our Merino or Merino cross sheep, please get in contact at sarahlhenry77@gmail.com

We still have some fleeces to sell, and I will list them as they become available.

We also have some fleeces from last year, which I will be selling off at discounted price.

Merino tup - supersoft

SOLD

This is a pure Merino fleece from our very special tup. He was bought for his incredibly fine wool and we are so excited that he will be enhancing future generations of the flock.

This fleece is unbelievable. The crimp is so fine and feels so soft. IT is pure white with locks 3-5inches. Without a doubt, this is the softest and finest of all our fleeces.

It is not the cleanest fleece. As is typical of merinos, the fibres trap dirt well, especially the tips. The fleece also doesn't hold together like the courser wool, but it is still in one piece! However, the quality of the locks and the supreme softness is worth any extra cleaning.

3.5kg, £70

Black and White Polwarth x Corriedale,
1st shearing

 3.25kg, £48

This fleece is mostly dark brown, with a white section around the neck. The tips of the locks are sunbleached. I normally keep this fleece for myself and produces the mostly glorious tweedy yarn.

The locks are strong and so soft, the yarn can be worn next to the skin.

The fleece felt apart which only happens to very softest and finest fleeces.

The locks are 4 inch long. Overall, this is a clean, quite greasy but top quality fibre.

SOLD

Merino x Polwarth 11

 3.75kg, £75

This is a wonderful big fleece. It has longer locks (around 5 inches) than our other merino cross fleeces, and would be ideal for both combing and carding preparations.

For a merino, it is also quite clean. There was a small felted patch around the neck which I have removed and there is still plenty of fibre to work with! There are 2 small paint marks which will need to be washed out.

A lovely versatile fleece with the softness typical of merino

Charollais x Jacob

 2.5kg. £15

An unusual cross for us, this is one of our very few Charollais x Jacob fleeces.

Very short locks, only 1-2 inches in length but a great dark brown colour. Very bouncy locks, could be used for spinning, felting and other fibre crafts!

Clean fleece, could only be carded due to the length of staples.

Corriedale x Cherino 13, 1st shearing

2kg £30

Gorgeous little fleece from an unusual lamb cross

This lamb is from a cherino (charollais x merino) crossed with a corriedale, and it is lovely and very unusual. Excellent crimp and very fine

Locks are a variety of lengths, 3-5 inches, this will be ideal to card and woolen spin into a warm, fluffy yarn. The corriedale adds a bit more durability into a very soft cherino fibre.

Clean, but some vm from a thistle in one patch.

Pure Polwarth, tag 1462

4kg, £72

A huge, fantastic quality pure Polwarth fleece!

This is beautiful pure Polwarth. Very long locks, 5-6 inches with consistent tight crimp. This fleece would be great to comb as the locks are really strong. The fibre feels gloriously soft, and definitely fine to wear next to the skin. There is some orange paint in the fleece, otherwise quite clean for a fine wool.

This fleece would be fantastic to comb and spin worsted, but would be equally lovely woolen spun from a carded batt. And with 4kg, plenty of fibre to do both.

A star pure polwarth fleece.

SOLD

Merino x Polwarth 3, 1st shearing

2.75kg, £55

1st shearing from superfine merino lamb. Super soft wool which is pure white.

Fleece has quite dirty tips, obviously a mucky little lamb and the locks are quite tippy. However, it should easily wash out with soak and hot wash. 5-6 inch locks length so excellent for combing.

Fabulous crimp, I counted around 10-12 crimps per inch and consistent throughout the lock.

Amazing soft fleece, ideally for combing preparation as the locks are longer than typical.

Merino ewe 21

SOLD

5.5kg, £95

This fleece is huge and has the longest locks of any of our Merino fleeces.

Super soft, with very long locks at 6inches. Also, it is very clean for merino and only one  blue paint mark.

I thought the fleece was slighted coated at first, but locks pull apart easily. There is some yellow staining on the locks (visible in the photos) but I washed a few locks and it washes out. Have reduced price anyway.

Huge soft fleece, which may not have the tightest crimp but really long locks ideal for combing.

A beautiful and huge fleece!

Corriedale 17, 1st shearing

SOLD

2.5kg  £37

Lovely dark brown corriedale fleece, 1st shearing

This fleece is lovely with a very consistent dark brown colour throughout the fleece. The ends are sunburnt and bleached, but the locks are strong and around 4-5 inches so could be combed or carded.

Merino x Polwarth 5, 1st shearing

SOLD

2.5kg, £50

This is a top quality merino fleece.

Very clean for a merino lamb, which tend to be quite filthy.  Perfect 4 inch locks with amazing tight crimp, this fleece feels unbelievable soft.

You won't be disappointed by this fleece, I can't rave about it enough.

The fleece fell apart when I was unrolling it to skirt, this only happens to the finest fleeces, an indicates the high quality

Merino x Polwarth 8, 1st shearing

Another fantastic Merino x Polwarth fleece. This one is super soft and pure white.

Incredibly tight crimp comsistent throughout lock and fleece. 3-4 inches lock length, which is probably best carded, but could be combed too. For a merino fleece, this one is reasonably clean!

SOLD

2.5kg, £50

Alpaca fibre

1kg £20

The alpacas are wonderful additions to the farm, they are endlessly entertaining, mostly by not being very intelligent. Basil, Flossie and Rosie are local celebrities in the village!

We are seling the alpaca fleece in 1kg lots and have white and a warm, rusty brown. Super soft and lightweight, with no lanolin or grease. Fantastic mixed with sheeps wool for an extra warm yarn.

Incredibly soft and two lovely colours.
